About Us

Tread Lightly Canada is a charitable organization that leads a national initiative to promote the responsible use of trails when recreating outdoors. Our goal is to balance the need for adventure with the need to conserve the natural environment.

To support this, we offer a wide range of projects, programs, trainings, and educational materials to promote a responsible outdoor recreation message. Our work includes educating users on responsible practices to reduce environmental impact and protect natural and cultural resources.

As a member-based organization, we rely on the support of our members and industry partners to deliver programs and complete trail maintenance and restoration projects that make a meaningful impact on the environment, the trail community and the neighboring communities where they live and play.

Thank you for being a part of our mission to promote responsible trail use and for doing your part to “protect the adventure” for future generations.

Education & Training

We offer the nation’s most comprehensive lineup of outdoor ethics education for both motorized and non-motorized recreation, including brochures, online courses, videos, and materials for educators and children. Our signature Tread Trainer™ program empowers volunteers nationwide to teach the T.R.E.A.D. Principles and promote responsible recreation.

Communications & Outreach

Our message of outdoor responsibility reaches millions through public service announcements, media coverage, and donated ad space. These efforts ensure that the Tread Lightly! mission resonates across all forms of media.

Trail Projects & Programs

Our goal is to provide resources for stewardship projects to keep public and private lands open, healthy, and accessible. With support from our members and partners, we provide resources for cleanup efforts, restoration, and educational events that foster hands-on care of our shared outdoor spaces.
